My science journey 2021

 

At the start of term two we were starting to do Electives.The electives decision was hard because i love Art,kapa haka and science but i said to myself ''lets give science a go''.On our first lesson we were learning around acid and alkaline and we made  bath bombs as the first lesson.Through out the year we have been stretching our neurons and making the challenges harder.This year i have learnt alot like the

.Newtons laws of motion

.acid and alkaline

.molecules/density and polarities 

at the end of term three we dragged the lessons out and carryed  on in term four in term four we were looking around elastic potential energy and made some great boats to race on the school pool.in my team we started off with two people Chase and i  and we called it the flash in the end we did not like it but that Milly- ela joined the group and we called it the typhoon flash.

THE RAIN

 we were writing about ... rain at school

i found it hard to... describe the rain as i hits the floor

i found it easy to... do me senses in this rain recount

i enjoyed...it when i was in the rain and i could feel the drops of water dripping from the sky

next time i will...add a bit more describing word in my writing

kapa haka 2021

 we were learning about ...being able to sing all the songs in kapa haka

i found it hard to...stomp at the same time as every one because it was all out of time

i found it easy to... sing gentle and nice and when the haka come i am loud furious 

i enjoyed ... it when we did the haka because i like it when we had to do the pukana and be ferocious

next time i will... try to even do it better and strong

battery car

Monday August 16th

Today in science we were experimenting a battery car. 

We had to to create ways to make the car move.

Somethings thing we found was wrong

. that the car pieces were not in properly

.that the car moved in mid air but not on the ground grass and concrete 

when it was time to race the car we did not win

We were learning about the battery car

I found it easy to work together

I found it hard to redo the car

I really enjoyed the race

Next time I need to share with the team

The brain box

CAN YOU DO IT TOO?

We made brain boxes today! It was very hard to work in a group with Eraia Vincent and chase in it 

we had strangled because we had nothing to think of but the thing is we had found something to do

step by step we had created something that could spin round and round like a prepaler

in to end we had created a miracle for the group.

How can coins, a glass cup and paper help us test Newton's first law of motion?

An object at rest stays at rest and object in motion stays in motion with same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced/outside force.

The law of inertia and gravity work on the coins, the law states that an object at rest will stay at rest unless an opposing force is acted upon it.

Egg Drop

today we were learning about inertia Newton first law motion once the egg starts to move it didn't want to stop.The container of water emptied the eggs fall, providing a safe place for the egg to stop

moving so you could recover it unbroken.The gravity-pushed the egg caused the water to splash out and the reason why we did this experiment is because we like to learn about Inertia and the three Newton laws of motion

How it works...

Our Rocket Blast Balloon demonstrates Newton’s Third Law of Motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

When we release the balloon, the pressurized air in the balloon pushes against the air around the balloon sending it in the opposite direction down the string.

Colour Changing Milk Experiment

What happened... Milk is mostly water, but it also contains vitamins, minerals, proteins, and tiny droplets of fat suspended in solution. Fats and proteins are sensitive to changes in the surrounding solution (the milk).

The molecules of fat bend, roll, twist, and contort in all directions as the soap molecules race around to join up with the fat molecules. During all of this fat molecule gymnastics, the food coloring molecules are bumped and shoved everywhere, providing an easy way to observe all the invisible activity. As the soap becomes evenly mixed with the milk, the action slows down and eventually stops. This is why milk with a higher fat content produces a better explosion of color—there’s just more fat to combine with all of those soap molecules.

LAVA LAMPS

LAVA LAMPS we were making lava lamps

in the lava lamps oil stays above the water because the oil is lighter than the water or, more specifically, less dense than water. The oil and water do not mix because of something called “intermolecular polarity.” Molecular polarity basically means that water molecules are attracted to other water molecules. They get along fine, and can loosely bond together (drops.) This is similar to magnets that are attracted to each other. Oil molecules are attracted to other oil molecules, they get along fine as well. But the structures of the two molecules do not allow them to bond together.

In the lava lamps the ingredients are:               we were learning about the science behind lava lamps

BATH BOMBS

 What we were learning

We were making bath bombs as a gift for mothers day.

The Acid and Alkaline with water makes co2 come for them When a bath bomb comes in contact with water, the baking soda and citric acid react to make carbon dioxide bubbles. This is an acid–base reaction, where baking soda (also called sodium bicarbonate) is a weak base and citric acid is a weak acid.
